Impact Of Communication On Cross Cultural Communication
Cultural differences can negatively impact effective communication thus companies need to train employees on cross-cultural communication. Companies not trained in cultural differences run the risk of ruining a business deal or relationship. Mukherjee and Ramos-Salazar (2014) mentioned, ââ¬Å"The key to global business success depends on effective cross-cultural etiquette and global workforce diversity managementâ⬠(p.18). Companies that understand differences between cultures have a competitive advantage over others. Communication is important to any company and communication between cultures has ââ¬Å"invisible barriersâ⬠(Guang Trotter). These barriers include time zones and language. Backgrounds, beliefs, and morals are also different between cultures, which affect how business is conducted. Relationships also need to be established to have a successful business partnership. As companies become more globalized communication strategies are becoming more dynamic. Companies that work internationally are competing for individuals that have intercultural competence (Graf Mertesacker, 2009, p. 539.) Individuals with intercultural competence are successful at interacting with other cultures. They have a better understanding of foreign cultures and how to conduct themselves when working with cultural differences.
